VIETNAM VETERANS'
DAY
MARCH 29, 2008
WHEREAS, thirty-five years
ago, on March 29, 1973, the last 2,500 troops were withdrawn from
South Vietnam; thus ending military involvement in what is now the
longest war in our country’s history; and
WHEREAS, due to the unpopularity of this eleven-year war, the men and
women who survived, and the 58,195 brave souls who fought and died,
were never given all the respect and gratitude they deserved for
serving their country; and
WHEREAS, it is time for all of us in the spirit of pride and gratitude
to recall the heroic accomplishments of the 1,293 of the names listed
on the Vietnam Memorial Wall from the Great State of Tennessee and
thank them for their unselfish devotion to duty; and
WHEREAS, the City of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, a prime example of a
welcoming and thankful community, gratefully desires to pay tribute to
our Vietnam Veterans;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, B.D. Privett, Mayor of the City of Soddy-Daisy,
Tennessee, do hereby designate and proclaim March 29, 2008, and every
March 29 from henceforth, as VIETNAM VETERANS DAY in Soddy-Daisy,
Tennessee and invite all citizens both in public ceremonies and in
private thoughts and prayers to pay tribute to our Vietnam Veterans. |
